EV charging cost calculator
Work out the cost of a charging session and compare yearly electricity and petrol costs using your own figures.
How the calculation works
Session cost is billed energy multiplied by your electricity price. Cost per 100 km is consumption multiplied by the unit price. Annual cost is the cost per 100 km multiplied by annual kilometres, divided by 100.
The comparison uses one electricity tariff. If you charge at several rates, run it again for each rate or enter your own weighted average. A zero tariff gives zero electricity cost, but other charging fees may still apply.
Does battery size tell me the billed energy?
No. Battery capacity and state-of-charge change describe stored energy. Charging losses mean the energy you pay for can be higher. Use a receipt or measured consumption where possible.
Does this calculate charging time?
No. Charging speed changes with the vehicle, battery temperature, state of charge and available station power. A station maximum is not a promise of session speed.
Are these current Australian prices?
No. All prices are editable examples. Check your electricity plan or the charging operator before using a result to make a budget.
