Why do EV chargers require a Type-B RCD or DC leakage protection?
EV batteries store direct current (DC). If a fault occurs in the onboard vehicle charger, DC residual current can leak back into the alternating current (AC) home supply. Standard household Type-A safety switches can be blinded by DC currents, rendering them unable to trip. A compliant installation requires built-in 6mA DC detection or a Type-B RCD.
