July Telstra Outage Disrupted Some Chargefox Charging Sessions

The Telstra mobile-network outage on 8 July 2026 disrupted access to some Chargefox charging sessions. This is a historical incident report, not an alert that the network is currently down.

What the sources establish

Telstra’s incident explanation dates the disruption to 8 July and describes a time-synchronisation software problem affecting parts of its mobile network. Its update reports restoration work and a subsequent calling issue.

CarExpert’s contemporaneous report attributes a warning to Chargefox that some public chargers could be unavailable during the provider outage. That report does not establish failure of every Chargefox unit or prove that another network would remain usable at every site.

Phone and charger connections are different

A driver may lose phone data while the charger can still communicate, or the station/backend may lose its own connection. A supported RFID card can avoid using the phone at the bay; it does not guarantee authorisation through every station or backend failure. Bank-card terminals also have their own operating requirements.

What to check for a future trip

Set up the payment methods supported by planned stops, and save a compatible alternative reachable with your expected reserve. Check the operator’s current status and venue access. If a charge will not start, retain the station ID and error message for support; if you cannot safely continue, contact your roadside-assistance provider.
