Charging Queues: What the NSW Infrastructure Inquiry Establishes

Charging-infrastructure evidence can explain constraints on expansion, but it does not establish the queue at a particular station on your travel day. This September archive article has been corrected to identify its evidence and remove unsupported national timing claims.

What the primary inquiry covers

The NSW Parliament’s infrastructure inquiry, tabled on 4 August 2026 and revised in October, examines grid capacity, distribution-network transparency and rural/regional charging. It is relevant evidence about infrastructure constraints, not a live count of holiday queues nationwide.

The earlier version here gave a typical 12–18-month connection period, named recurring bottleneck towns and presented a universal battery-charge window without evidence sufficient for those claims. Those statements have been removed. The report does not establish one cause for every queue or a queue forecast for every highway.

Equipment sharing and battery limits need context

A station’s rated maximum and its number of connectors do not establish simultaneous output to every car. Shared equipment may allocate power in different ways. A car may already be accepting less than its available share, so halving a nominal cabinet rating does not necessarily double a session’s duration.

The Australian Government’s equipment guide explains the role of vehicle and battery limits. Use the actual car’s guidance and session display rather than a fixed charging-time promise.

Plan with current information

Before travel, choose compatible alternatives with suitable payment and access and enough reserve to reach them. Check current operator status safely before committing to a stop; do not use a phone while driving. A reported vacancy can change before arrival.

The journey planner helps find candidates. Our usable-power guide and queue etiquette guide cover the practical decisions without claiming to predict a bay’s availability.

Compare public charging stops

Compare recorded connectors, power and access, then confirm current details with the operator.
